First Day of School
Catholic School Students Head Back To Class

Catholic school students throughout San Antonio and outlying communities graced their new classrooms and teachers with fresh exuberance and renewed confidence to begin another year of academic excellence. Braving record high temperatures, Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic school students beat the heat and welcomed the 2010-2011 school year on August 16, 2010.

This year the Archdiocese of San Antonio also welcomed 12 new principals, who hit the ground running to assure every teacher and every family reaped the rewards of a continued devotion to faith, academics and service.

At the high schools, Peter Rivera is the new principal at St. Gerard Catholic High School, Rene Escobedo is in charge at St. Anthony Catholic High School and Henry Galindo is the new principal at Holy Cross High School.

At the elementary and junior high schools, Tom Deming is at the helm at St. Pius X Catholic School; Rick McCormick is at Rolling Hills Academy; Elizardo Hernandez is at Holy Spirit Catholic School; Toni Morrell is at Sacred Heart in Floresville; Dr. Esther Miranda is at St. Anthony Catholic School; Cheryl Ann Sirois is at St. Thomas More; Marie Morrell is at Sacred Heart School in Floresville; Olivia Talavera is at Sacred Heart School in Uvalde; and Rob Whitworth, Jr., is at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic School in New Braunfels.  Read More ... 


Tuition Assistance Awards
top $800,000 for 2010-2011

Hope for the Future is awarding more than $800,000 in tuition assistance for the 2010-2011 school year, thanks to the generous contributions of Catholic school supporters including foundations, individuals and corporations.
With gratitude, Hope for the Future acknowledges the benevolence of Catholic Life Insurance for their $350,000 contribution made possible through their yearly raffle; everyone who contributed to the 2009 Archbishop’s Appeal which raised $265,000; The Harvey E. Najim Foundation for their $250,000 grant; the John G. & Marie Stella Kenedy Foundation & Trust for their $50,000 grant; the Scanlan Foundation for their
$40,000 grant; A.M. Lecea for her $25,000 donation; and Archbishop José H. Gomez for his $20,000 donation.
The total cost to serve the estimated 3,000 children in need of tuition assistance is $3 million, a goal Hope for the Future hopes to achieve by 2012-2013.
